PORT HURON, MI – The Port Huron Icehawks scored four unanswered goals on Tuesday on the way to a 6-1 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets at McMorran Arena.
The Icehawks improve to 17-3-0-0 on home ice and 28-9-0-3 overall with the victory and move back into a first place tie with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the International Hockey League standings with 59 points. The third place Komets fall to 23-13-0-2 with 48 points and now trail the Icehawks and Lumberjacks by 11.
Mickael Bedard led all skaters with two goals and two assists to extend his personal point streak to six games. His linemate Derek Patrosso recorded one goal and three assists and defenseman Jamie Lovell chipped in one goal and a pair of helpers.
The Icehawks lit the lamp three times in the first period to take an early 3-0 lead. Bedard notched his 25th goal of the season at 10:39 on assists from Nick Lindberg and Lovell. The onslaught continued with a goal from Patrosso just over two minutes later and a Pete Rouleau goal at 17:54. Lovell assisted on the Patrosso goal, and Patrosso and Bedard had the helpers on Rouleau’s goal.
The Icehawks added another goal early in the second period when Adam Maccarone beat goalie Tim Haun at 6:11. Lindberg and Icehawks newcomer Brandon Kaleniecki assisted. Guy Dupuis broke Fort Wayne’s scoreless drought at 14:03 to spoil the Icehawks shutout bid. P.C. Drouin and Colin Chaulk assisted on the power play goal.
The Icehawks were not deterred, however, and poured on two more goals to blow the game open. Bedard scored his second of the night at 18:59 in the second period on assists from Patrosso and Mike Gershon. The barrage continued in the third when Lovell landed the Icehawks first power play goal of the game at 5:56. Patrosso and Bedard were credited with the assists.
Port Huron outshot Fort Wayne 30-26 overall. Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling started the game and stopped all seven shots he faced before suffering an injury late in the first period. He was replaced by Adam Russo who made 18 saves on 19 shots. Komets goalie Tim Haun turned away 15 of 20 shots.

The Icehawks will fight for sole possession of first place tomorrow when they go head-to-head with the Lumberjacks in Muskegon. The Icehawks return home for a pair of weekend games, including a showdown with the Flint Generals on Saturday and a rematch with the Komets on Sunday.
